What stays on your iPhone

Bear Days is built to work on your iPhone first. Care records, notes, photos, videos, Live Photos, and Chat history are kept on your iPhone and protected by Apple device data protection and file encryption. You can add a child and log care without an account.

This includes:

• Child profiles you create.
• Care records such as feedings, sleep, diapers, growth, milestones, vaccines, medicines, visits, symptoms, and moments.
• Photos, videos, and Live Photos you attach.
• Chat history saved locally on this iPhone.

If you sign in, your family's records can also stay in sync across your family's devices. The next section describes exactly what that adds.

Your account and family sharing

Signing in is optional. It adds two things: your family's records stay in sync across devices, and you can share them with the people who care for your child.

When you sign in. You can sign in with Apple or with an emailed verification code, and we receive the email address that sign-in provides. If you use Apple's Hide My Email, that is the relay address Apple gives us, not your personal one. A display name and a profile photo are optional; if you add them, the other people in your family see them, so everyone knows who logged what.

What is kept in the cloud. While a family is syncing, we keep a copy of that family's child profiles, care records, family catalogs, checklists, and the photos, videos, and Live Photos attached to those records. That copy is what lets a second phone show the same day, and what brings your records back when you set up a new iPhone. We also keep the family's member list, its unused invitation codes, and whether its subscription is currently active. Chat history is never part of this — it stays on the iPhone that created it.

Who can see it. A family is invite-only and holds up to four people. Everyone in a family sees the same children and the same records and can add to them. Invitations are single-use codes that stop working after 24 hours, and the person who created the family can cancel an unused code or remove a member. Nobody outside your family can read your family's records, and we do not share them with anyone else.

When sync is on. Cloud sync belongs to the family: it runs while you are signed in and that family has Bear Days Plus. Otherwise Bear Days stays on this iPhone. Either way, records you have already made are kept on the device — if a subscription ends, sync stops and nothing local is deleted.

What we do not upload

If you never sign in, your records, photos, and notes stay on this iPhone and are not sent to us. Chat is the only exception, and only when you tap Send — see below.

Chat history is not kept in cloud storage, whether or not you sign in.

We do not use your care data for ads, and we do not sell your data.

Chat and dictation

When you tap Send in Chat, Bear Days sends that message through its chat service directly to a GDPR-compliant LLM service provider; depending on your region and service availability, that provider may be OpenAI or DeepSeek. Chat uses the text to answer and suggest record drafts. Suggested record cards are not saved as care records unless you explicitly save them.

When you ask Chat to read or summarize local care history, Bear Days may include a limited, redacted projection of the relevant local records in that Chat request, such as record type, time, a short app-generated summary, or aggregate counts, durations, and volumes. This redacted projection is sent directly to the GDPR-compliant LLM service provider as part of the Chat request so the model can answer from those local facts. It is trimmed down for the model, not raw record data or a full database upload. It does not include attachments, photos, videos, or Live Photos, and does not make our servers or LLM service providers the source of truth for your care records.

Bear Days does not store Chat history in cloud storage. Chat history stays on this iPhone. The Chat request is temporarily processed by our chat service and the LLM service provider so Chat can respond; our servers do not store any data from that Chat request, including messages, redacted projections, or record drafts.

When you use dictation, Apple's iOS Speech Recognition processes your voice and places the transcript in the composer; your voice does not pass through our servers. Bear Days sends that transcribed text only when you tap Send.

Retention, deletion, and withdrawal

You can choose not to sign in and not to use Chat. Then your care records, child profile, notes, photos, videos, Live Photos, and attachments do not leave this device as part of core tracking, and you can still log care exactly as before.

You can delete records, attachments, and child profiles in the app. Deletion removes the local data from this device, and for a family that is syncing it removes the cloud copy as well.

You can delete a whole family from inside the app. That permanently deletes the children, records, and attachments in it for everyone in that family, and the other members lose access. You can also delete your account: if you created a family, that family and its records are deleted with it; if you are a member of someone else's family, deleting your account removes you from it and the family's records stay with the remaining members. Both actions ask you to confirm first and cannot be undone.

Signing out stops cloud sync on that iPhone.

Diagnostics

If the app crashes or runs into an error, Bear Days may use a GDPR-compliant third-party performance tool (Sentry) to collect the minimum information needed to understand what happened.

Diagnostics are scrubbed and do not include your record text, photos, videos, audio, notes, Chat content, or child-identifying information you entered. We use diagnostics only to fix bugs and improve app quality.

Website analytics

This website (beardays.app) may use scrubbed website visit statistics to understand how visitors find Bear Days.

We do not send anything from inside the iPhone app into website analytics.

In the EU, EEA, UK, and Switzerland, the site asks for consent before enabling analytics. You can decline; analytics will then stay off and we will not write analytics cookies. Elsewhere, analytics is enabled by default; you can opt out at any time by clearing the beardays_analytics_consent entry in your browser storage. We do not use this data for ads, and we do not sell it.

Photos and videos you choose

When you add attachments, iOS opens the system photo picker so you can choose specific photos, videos, or Live Photos.

Bear Days only receives the items you choose. The current app does not request camera or notification permission. It requests microphone and Speech Recognition permission only when you use Chat dictation.

Children’s privacy

The app is designed to help caregivers track care for young children. Caregivers, not children, are the users of the app. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information directly from children.

If you create a child profile, add records, or submit child-related information in Chat, please make sure you are the child’s guardian or have the guardian’s authorization. If you invite someone into your family, you are choosing to share that child's records with them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a revised “Last updated” date. If we introduce features that change how data is collected, we will update this page before those features launch.
